A lot of people are wondering what exactly the current situation is with tariffs and RVs in Canada.

To try to bring some clarity to this situation we decided to answer 5 of the most common questions concerning tariffs and the RV industry as it affects Canadians. So, with every effort for transparency and full disclosure in mind we will try to answer some of these questions.

Are there tariffs on RVs in Canada? Answer - No as of April 8th 2025.

There are currently no tariffs being applied to RVs by the Canadian government or the US government as a whole unit. The reason for this is RVs are named in the USMCA agreement as a vehicle that is traded between the 2 countries with no tariffs. When the reciprocal tariff announcement was made Canada and Mexico were not mentioned most likely because of this existing agreement. The agreement is to be reviewed in July 2026.

Are tariffs going to affect the price of a new RV? Answer - Yes in the very near future.

Although there are no tariffs on RV’s that ship between Canada and the US, there is tariffs on a lot of the materials and components that RVs are made of. Manufacturers are anticipating significant price increases in the next 2 months to their cost to build an RV. For example, the appliances in the RV’s may be built offshore. If they are then those appliances are subject to tariffs. Also, there is significant tariffs on aluminum and steel. Most RVs contain a lot of aluminum and steel, this will drive up the cost of the RV. Although I have not had a hard number communicated to us yet, I have heard that prices may go up from 8 to 10 percent. This price increase will affect all RV’s not just the ones in Canada.

Are the prices of RV parts affected by tariffs? Answer - Yes

The price of RV parts are going to be affected in 2 ways – both manufacture price increases and some reciprocal tariffs on certain RV parts. Seeing many of these parts come from offshore suppliers and many of them are made of aluminum and steel – we are seeing price increases on these products happening in real time. Also certain parts are not covered by the USMCA agreement, and they are currently subject to reciprocal tariffs from the Canadian government.

Do the tariffs affect the prices of RVs that are in stock? Answer - No not yet.

Currently most if not all the inventory that dealers have in stock have not been affected by tariffs. The majority of 2025 units will be spared cost increases. Some manufacturers are locking in their prices on all 2025 units and some are not. However, 2026 units can start to be produced as early as June 2025, so we expect to see a significant increase in the cost on 2026 models if the situation does not change.

When is the best time to buy an RV? Answer - When you are ready.

If everything stays the way it currently is (this cannot be predicted) then RV prices will be the lowest on in stock units that dealers have on the ground. However, the best time to buy an RV is when you are ready to enjoy it.
